Description

A beeswax candle is the only candle product made from 100% natural, eco-friendly, and local material. When burning, a beeswax candle emits the sweet aroma of beeswax without any added fragrances.

Unlike paraffin, which is a by-product of oil production, beeswax candles burn cleanly. Literature suggests that beeswax neutralizes airborne pollutants, allergens, and dust particles when burned; scientific evidence in this area is still under investigation. Candles made from soy, rapeseed, palm, and coconut waxes offered in Estonia are made from imported materials and thus have a larger environmental footprint.

The wax for this set is collected from hives in Pärnumaa, located in Kastna coastal meadows, Jäärumetsa, and near Nätsi-Võlla bog. Bees use beeswax to make honeycomb cells, which they need for raising their offspring and storing pollen and nectar. Young worker bees produce wax sheets and build combs. A bee family produces the most wax during its active growth and foraging period in May and June, when new comb cells are needed and honey-filled cells are capped with wax.

Making beeswax candles is a pleasant manual activity for children, resulting in a beautiful product. It’s a good opportunity to discuss fire safety with children while crafting candles.

The crafting kit includes everything needed to make five candles, each 14 cm tall and 2 cm in diameter:

  • 5 wax sheets measuring 14*21 cm
  • Candle wick for 5 candles
  • Crafting instructions

When burning a candle, be cautious and follow fire safety rules. Never leave a candle unattended and keep it away from flammable materials. If burning multiple candles at once, leave at least 10 cm between them to prevent dangerous heat build-up and ensure even burning.
