Description
Making Christmas crowns is an old Estonian tradition. According to belief, a Christmas crown hung above the table on the ceiling during the Christmas period brings family happiness and prosperity in the coming year, and protects the home and family from all evil. The Christmas crown was the main Christmas decoration for Estonians. Take a slow moment in today’s fast-paced world and craft your own traditional Christmas crown, or make one together with your family. Offer your children quality time as well – a reed crown crafting kit is as good as Lego blocks, plus a lesson in Estonian history. The crafting kit includes:
- 65 pieces of reed from the seashore of Kastna Bay in Pärnu County (60 pieces are needed, plus five spare pieces)
- Linen string
- Wire “needle”
- Crafting instructions
You can add small bells, pieces of yarn, blown-out painted eggs, ribbons, air plants, and other decorations to the Christmas crown. You can also tie small Christmas crowns to the large one or under each other. Imagination has no limits!
